Default Who local does cage/roll bar work?

Looking at getting a 4point bar made so I can start running hillclimbs in the Monaro.

Going to have to pass SCCA and Nasa tech inspection.

Has to be 1.750” x .120” DOM 4130 chromoly.

From my experience premade bars designed and aimed at dragracers take way to much effort to pass an actual tech inspection.

Initial Tech inspection in so in depth that they will drilling at least one hole to check wall thickness; so you better bet they will call you out on the little things.

Basic design I am playing with.

If they have to drill a hole in your cage to check thickness they don't need to be checking cages.

^This.

I highly recommend Cliff by the way, he welded the cage in my T/A and it turned out great. Was fair on the price too.

Agreed. An Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge can be had for less than $1k. A sanctioning body that regulates materials to be used should carry one.

Default Holes

Drilling a 1/16" hole in tubing is common. Most fabricators do this anyways. It lets out built up Preasure in the tubing to keep from blowing out the weld as you close it up.

Every main sanctioning body in the US requires an inspection hole.

Get up with Scott Sippler about who did the cage in his M3, it was cheap and looks good. its some drifter out of Charlotte that happens to bend pipe and weld pretty good.

so the part where the hole is needs to be legal. the rest of the cage can be conduit.

Not true. I've had plenty and they have never had to drill a hole. Ultrasonic reading and its done. What are they gonna do, drill a hole in every bar?
