transbrake and 2 step wiring

I suck at wiring and don't know how relays work so I wanted to see if this looks right. I have a 4 pin relay and had this wiring diagram made.

85 and 86 is keyed igniton
30 is constant 12 volt source
87 is accessory

not really, your relay drawing looks good, but you have it supplying ground to the two step thru the button/switch.


the PDF shows a +12v input on JH9 for the two step.

that means you should come off the relay (terminal 87) and supply +12v to the "stutter box" at JH9 when you want to activate the two step.


don't get all excited about relays, it has 4 pins:
2 pins to make it open/close - think of an electro magnet, it has a ground and positive to make the electro magnet suck the little switch inside the relay over to another position.

then, you have 2 pins for the input/output:
-1st pin is what you input (ground, power, whatever)
-2nd pin is the output of the relay (feeding the circuit you want controlled)


just relax and think about it as a switch.

There are many ways to wire things up. 85 and 86 are your activation terminals for your relay. 87, 30 and 87a are your load terminals. Depending on how you wire your loads, you can have them normally open or closed.

I know the 2 step needs to be supplied the ground to work. I had it working off of the brake pedal switch and then grounding it to activate it with a push button. I just wasn't sure how to wire it up with the trans brake.

That will put 12v to the transbrake and ground the 2step when the button is pushed.

Well the wiring in the original post didn't work. The trans brake works, but the 2 step isn't stopping it at the setpoint.

Any ideas?

I had it wired up by it self before I had the trans brake and it worked fine

It's a Synergy 2 step

Does your two-step need to see the ground input to work? Or does it need to see the 12V+ to work? If it's the latter of the two, then you can piggy back of the relay terminal 87 to drive the two-step as well.

I have an msd two step setup left over from my fastback. Basically plugs into the 6AL where the rev limiter chip goes.

After reviewing your synergy wiring diagram, the two-step wants to see the ground input just like you show it in diagram number 1 in your first post. Wire it just the way you showed it in that picture and it should work just fine. Just make sure you use a momentary switch as well for the transbrake relay. If this gets too confusing, then get a double pole double throw relay that has isolated contacts and use one momentary to drive the relay, then the relay will drive both the brake and the two-step. If this still blows your mind, then pm me your cell number and I can call you sometime tomorrow afternoon.
