1st, i'm looking for a cheap 80s something stang, i would like a coupe so if anyone knows of any, please let me know. dirt cheap
questions, do they put different rears in the 6 cyl cars compared to v8 cars?
is everyone changing their front susp on the cars?
what does a stock v8 car weight?
how much HP can the 8.8 rear handle?
do they have 5 lung pattern wheels or 4?
is there any better year than another for more durable pieces?

Did you fall and hit your head? You are obviously working on this for someone else.

Well, my car weights over 3600lbs. its always a concern of mine taking the car to the track and, god for bid hit a wall. i'm considering putting a more mild engine and AC in the challenger and putting my motor into something that weighs alot less and i couldnt car less if it hits a wall.
i could take 100 hp out of the challenger and still be faster than the lightnings:hide::hysterical:

Check out CarolinaRides.com There is always Mustangs on there for sale. As far as the 4 lug/5 lug, they have come with both. Most people swap to a 5 lug from what I have seen.
They also make kits to allow for LS1 swaps.

if we could get down to 3600lbs we would have to give you two bulbs just to make it close....and wouldn't give a shit about your 100 hp....:finger:

the Fox body's had 4 lugs, and the SN95 has 5 lug.
the early SN95 had 5.0, and the 4.6 came out in ~94??
the early 4.6 are POOCHEs - called Non-PI (non performance improvement)
99 is the PI - performance improvement -with bigger intake ports
the 99 i had was rated 290hp
the 93 LT1 we had was rated 275hp, and it was MUCH stronger than the 99 MGT.
everyone says the modular motor (the 4.6) has to WIND UP to make power,
hence all the 4:10 rearends in the 4.6 cars.
i like the 5.0: good low end, plenty of parts.
the 4 lug was always considered a weakness of the fox body, but prolly really wasn't
the 4 lug fox body had drum rears, too.
so a SN95 body with a 5.0 (92, 93, I think) would be the choice.
would have the good motor (parts availability) and 5 lugs and rear discs.
a cobra would be different, but more $$, and then the worries off wall'ing it.
i would do a 5.0 if you just want a strip beater.
a 4.6 won't be fast enough to be fun, IMHO

The 99 was rated at 260 the cobra was rated at 320 but had some issues.
in 01 the bullit mustang was interoduced as a special model. it has a model specific intake and the block bore/stroke is different. they were rated at 270hp
the fox body (80's) were 4cyl or 8 cyl. the 4's if not svo were 7.5" rears and the v8's are 8.8's the svo's had 5 lug 8.8's
SN95 was the 94/95 5.0 215hp down from the 93 model year due to intake redesign to fit under the hood. 4.6 came out in 96 and is non-pi intake restricted 4.6. with hp rating in around 225.
anything else just ask

maybe i should have said that Ford will not be powering the mustang. So the 4.6 stangs have 4.10 gears, that good info right there. i dont know or know how to tell what a SN95 is.
what about front susp stuff? is there "need to do things"??

you can just do some 90/10s. or do a complete k-member with coil overs.

i really dont know what advantage there is to changing the K member. i dont have that on my challenger so i dout i would buy it for a mustang unless its a major weight or safety issue

k-member... makes life easy. and a good weight savings

we have been 4.90s on a 8.8 just need good axles and gears and stuff, most of the 4 cyl and 6cyl do not come with 8.8, i would get an 8.8 out of an expolorer, the 4 cyl cars are lighter than the 8cyl cars, so i would get a 4cyl car and put a 8.8 out of an explorer. u can buy the whole qa1 front end thats kmember a arms castercamber plates struts everything as a kit
Robert Holton
10-13-2009, 02:30 PM
k member and a arm swap is an ass load of weight and safer

get a dime. lighter than a mustang. lol no mustangs ever came with 4.10s stock. only 5 lug fox stock was the svo, turbod 4 banger. a tubular k member saves a ton of weight and makes life easier when getting to the oilpans and such. a lx hatch mustang doesnt weigh much more than a lx coupe. it is hard sometimes to find a dirt cheap coupe that doesnt need everything
i really dont know what advantage there is to changing the K member. i dont have that on my challenger so i dout i would buy it for a mustang unless its a major weight or safety issue

k member will save you weight about 80# and it makes installing the engine whatever it may be easier and installing the headers too. the 4 lug 8.8 with aftermarket axles will handle a good bit.

just stay 8.8 mustang and build it. explorer's are leafsprings, until 05 i think. and mustangs are not. why fab everything when there are bolt in 8.8 s available.

Mustang Fox bodies from 79 to 85 V8 or otherwise (except for SVO) was a 7.5 rear. The 8.8 didnt start until 86, in cars other than SVO. Highly recommend K member makes life much easier. Rear disc brakes who cares he is use to drum brakes unless he changed the Mopar, plus Aerospace rears discs brakes are 479.00. 4 lug or 5 lug, like Robert said they have been 4.90's on 4 lugs, and I have been low 9's in the quarter on 4 lugs and haven't broke them yet.:bigthumb:

i would prefer 5 lug because it would be the same as a mopar making thing much easier.
the K frame is just an expense i dont think i could handle. i would probably chop up the stock one and weld shit to it.
5.50s for $1500 is the goal:hysterical: on pump gas with exhaust

yea u will need to make it fit ur specs then u can put what ever wheel u want in them the explorer housing is stronger than ones out of a car

Those would be the FX4/FX4 Level II models Mr. Buckner is referring to. I think some of those even had 4.10s as well.
