Switching from 1/8 mile to a 1/4 mile track, what modifications do you make to your ride or "should be made" to your ride?

A few that come to mind..

gear ratio
parachute

I know that, going from 1/4 to 1/8, not much is changed. I would think that gear ration would not be too big a deal, since it appears that most of the acceleration is done in the 1st 1/8 mile. This may be different in a forced induction car. As far as a parachute goes, I would think that-if you don't need it on the shoter tracks-you won't need one on a long track.

Just my .02. I may be wrong; but I think my logic is sound.

Isn't parachute governed by ET not track length? It would be a rule just like the cage requirements.

Gearing is the main thing I can think of. in the 8th your trying to get the most power out of a short distance. you wouldn't want to run hthe same gear in the 1/4 if your power is finished at the 8th mark. Set your vehicle up for the tracks you run the most.

X2. Parachute is governed by mph. I "believe"...it is once you reach 140 mph in the 1/4 you are required to have a chute. That is if your following the rest of the safety rules hardly anyone ever does. I don't remember what the rule is for trap speed in the 1/8th to require a chute.

Maybe a spoiler adjustment and change the nitrous jets or even add a second stage.
Auto trans, change the stall
run a taller tire?
running longer at top speed, maybe a change in the tune?

8.99999 or better or 150mph

Tire size and gear ratio play a huge factor . Most fast cars you see running 1/8th mile are set up for 1/8th .

My old Cobra with 26" ET Streets and 4.10s couldn't make it through the 1/4 mile . It would bump the rev limiter about 200 ft before the end stripe . I put a 28" tire on it and problem was fixed .

Wow. I guess I didn't realize it made that much of a difference.

taller tires in theory numerically lowers your gear ratio which means a good bit. just like running too tall of a tire on a vehicle will slow it down.
