removing 9" axles

my s-10 has a 9 inch with a spool and 35 spline moser axles. it has no c-clip eliminators but the axles are firm in there how do i get these out? it might be a dumb question but i didnt think it would have c-clips

There is a "horseshoe" shaped retainer on the outside. Between the axle housing end and the flange of the axle...

Take those 4 bolts out, and remove that flange and the axle should slide out.

yep. hes right the axles also should have a bigger hole that you go threw the axle itself to get to the nuts :bigthumb:

my rear end does not have those or any bolts in the holes. but it will not come out should i beat the shit out of it?

you have to take the cover off the center of the rear end and take the c-clips off the end of the axles

you cant do that on a 9 inch it doesent have a 'cover' it has a center section

All of those instructions are wrong. This is step by step instructions of how I would do it:

1. Hook trailer to truck.
2. Push racecar/truck onto trailer, or load whatever you have onto trailer.
3. Tie everything down tight.
4. Drive to your favorite race car shop.
5. Back trailer to shop door.
6. Unstrap all your shit.
7. Push racecar/truck off trailer or just throw all your shit into their floor.
8. Give instructions.
9. Tell them to call you when it is done.
10. Go home and relax, call them often asking what the holdup is.

That method has worked for me everytime.

After you take the 4 bolts out of the flange,reinstall the brake drum or disc *backwards* and start the lugnuts 3 or 4 turns- then use the drum/disc as a slide hammer.

Sometimes the OD of the axle bearings have a snug fit in the ends of your axle tubes. A slide hammer with a hub pulling adapter or equivalent should get your axles out after you remove the retainers and their bolts.

edit: i guess it depends on what you are trying to do.
i can swap suspension, pull motors, trannies, wire and entire car, gear swaps, pull top ends off and put them back, tune, etc etc etc-
but when it comes to doing/accomplishing certain things- i get more self gratification out of hauling ass and knowing i am safe (especially being safe)- even if it means writing a check.

I completely understand. I hit the brick wall when I think about hauling ass and not knowing if I trust the person who completed the previous work. (Big time trust issues here) I figure if I it screws up, I break it or even crash.. its on me. No one to blame but myself.
