View Full Version : A suggestion for Bowman track

Alot of racers dont know about Bowman track and how nice of a track it is and it seems like Stock Suspention and Backhalf races has gotten really popular very fast with very good turnouts as far as racers and spectators. So maybe Bowman should have one.(including test n tune and grudge racing)
Anyone agree?

Yea not enough shutdown really does stop the big boys from coming, but didnt 4.70 class pro mods run there a few months back?
Also Ronald should post more on grudgeracer.com just to get the word out

i doubt anybody went a 4 anything at bowman, it is a nice track just needs more room, i won a 7.00 race there and in the final round i hit the cones down there and almost went in the field

They did have some pro mods run out there awhile back. It was about 6 of them or so. They were running 4.6-4.7 if I remember right. None of them had problems stopping or even used there chutes. Its no worse than dorchester for shut down IMO. The only problem I ever had shutting down there is when I stayed in it a little to long past the traps. You really want to pay close attention to where your at on the track.

Do these upgrade include converting it into a 1/4 mile track:mrgreen:? I would love to see a closer 1/4 track than Jackson and Darlington.:cheers

Yep. I feel the same way because Jackson is a sleeper road. There are a lot of racers in the area that a 1/4 mile track will do good for.:bigthumb:

+ 1 for the 1/4 mile suggestions, I am fed up with crappy (or in dorchester's case &#$@&#%#) 1/8 mile tracks as my only option. 1/8th is okay but 1/4 is where its at.

I'd be in favor of a time display. I'm probably the only one, but when spectating it is much better to see the times. Then for the people that don't want their times displayed must ask for or put on their car the n/t for no time.

Not trying to start anything, but if you cant make a good 1/8th mile pass, then whats the point in wanting a 1/4? I understand Dorc. isnt the best, but unless you have a wes turbo, the 1/8th is where you'll be getting most of your et. Just my .02. Id love a 1/4 mile track too though.

just the feeling of getting over 100 mph is awesome lol I can just about accelerate through the 1/8 legally lol. Yes I know my car is slow. Besides I haven't ever gone to a NHRA/IHRA national event to see cars running 1/8 mile.....Car magazines never brag that such and such car can run xxxx in the 1/8 mile....its all about the 1/4 mile, the ol' 1320 baby! BTW define "but if you cant make a good 1/8th mile pass, then whats the point in wanting a 1/4?" If you want to throw down in fisticuffs, fine. I've got Jack Johnson and Tom O'Leary waiting for you, right here....

I have always liked 1/4 mile action. Some cars that dominate over another in the 1/8 may see taillights in the 1/4. I like both. I prefer 1/4 mile as some vehicles perform better there.

True story.
I like 1/8th.
I get bored in the 1/4, Most of the time I start watching my flip out tv after 100' . Of course my truck is slow as balls, may be different in a fast car.

I wasnt saying the TA cant make a good 1/8th pass, but he said 1/4 is where its at...so explain what was meant by that? Shit starts breaking after the 1/8th anyway. IMO, 1/8th is a drivers race, and 1/4 is a car race. And im not a car, so I like 1/8th.

Thats cool, so if we get a true 1/4 mile track you can just shut off at the half way point and have that much more room to get stopped. :finger:

I AGREE!! I have coilovers and im bouncing all over on the return.
I dont like watching 1/4mile cars race. It looks boring to me. I guess its because the cars are geared differently. Top Fuel and Funny Car racing is a different story.
8th mile cars are geared differently so there is alot more action (faster acceleration). Id rather see a Top fuel dragster and funny car run the 8th mile.

Since no one else is saying anything...
How long would it take to save up the money for a good return road if you increased admission by $5? I think that would make it the same as Dorchester.

Ballaholic29414

I think the the shut down should be lengthened before the return road gets fix so the faster guy would come to bowman since they all say there isn't enough shut down for them, because faster cars will bring more spectators and that will pay for the return road and everything else

Maybe 5 teens on down. Im pretty sure they can stop but they probably want as much room as possible to stop. I think Bowman has alot less stopping room than most 8th mile tracks on paper.

03-29-2010, 06:28 PM
It's not the ET that is hard to stop. It's weight and mph. Personally, I want enough room to stop if the chute doesn't come out for some reason. I believe it would be tough for me at Bowman or Dorchester.

If a Pro mod can stop at Dorchester you should able to stop, lol. I know a few guys with turbo cars that are 3800+lbs and they have a hard time stopping also on shorter tracks.

03-29-2010, 08:54 PM
It's been a while since i have been there. I just remember making a pass in my old Trans Am and thinking it was a short shutdown like Dorchester.
I don't know what would be considered "enough". I am sure tracks are just trying to make ends meet right now. If I were in their shoes, I would pave the return road first- I remember it being pretty rough.
I have only run my new car on quarter mile tracks, so I really don't know how much room it would take to stop at a true 1/8th mile facility with no parachute.

Ronald

To answer the question about a few things the folks that owns the land around the track wont let us put up a bigger signs right now we have a1/4 mile of shut down we plan to add another 1/8 of a mile to it .Then it will be about 2000 ft. of shut down room. The return road will also be work on. One things money was tight last season hope it will be better this year. Please keep me up date on things we need to do thanks in advance. Ronald

If you are waiting to check the DA on a computer after the fact you are pissing in the wind anyway. There are variations in weather conditions from the trailer to the starting line so how in the world do you expect to get accurate info off a weather station that is who knows where?
And if you want to start tracking weather conditions, you need to track a lot more than just DA.
