I went to walmart and bought a descent jack.
The hydraulic jack is an off brand from Walmart "Speedy Lift" rated at 2.5 tons. Maybe Harbor Freight has a good jack at a great price?
Make sure your jack stands are about the same rating as the jack.
My own personal rule when it comes to jacking up a vehicle which I intend to crawl under, the jack should be rated at twice the weight which the object actually weighs.

What is the price range you are looking at? I forget what kind we have at my dads house.
But I have been eyeing this one mainly for the foot release. Getting hit in the leg with a jack handle hurts when it doesn't come down slowly. lol'

I use the aluminum craftsman 2 ton. Being so light it's great to take to the track to change tires.
My truck weighs over the 2 ton limit, but I'm never lifting more than one corner in the front or the whole rear end. You can tell when you lift the front end that the jack is struggling. I would never climb under the truck without a jack stand.
The jack did break on me one time, and I had to modify the u-joint on it since I lost a small pin. Craftsman only sells the entire pump assembly (~$70) and I only needed a 2 dollar part.
I'm looking to get a heavier jack now that I have the diesel. I wouldn't want to try to lift even one corner of that 7500lb truck with a 2 ton jack.

My dad uses the craftsman 2 ton jack for small stuff, but also has two JEGS 3 ton jacks that are about a 1/2 inch lower than the craftsman. He lifts the front of all the lightnings, F-250 diesels, duramax 2500 diesel, and pretty much everything else and has never had any problems.

wow...read the reviews here:
Made by Torin Jacks, so you can order the rebuit kit through them. $12.50. Still a wasted of money. Will never buy from craftsman again.

they are the same on the main sears page:

it gets much worse over here:

my sears jack started leaking, and it was creaking while changing tires this week.
so i just gave it to the guy who was wanting to buy the tires.
but dang it looks like it takes some serious coin to get a jack that will last longer than a year or so, mine was only ~1.5 years old.
$239, but 3 ton

$119, 4 ton, 4 inch saddle

i think i can buy one Harbor Freight now, and another one in a few years for that price.
and the owners manual has a full parts list, so you should be able to rebuild it, too.

My A/C Delco low profile works great. We all know I use it a lot.

Northern tool has a 3.5 ton ARCAN brand jack, link here: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200345429_200345429
Catch it on a sale and use a coupon they send in the mail, got mine for $89.99 and it is pretty low profile. Hasn't failed me yet in 3 years, and is very well built.

I have a 2 ton A/C delco which seems to bleed down over time now. Jacks fine. I also have a 3 ton low clearance from Harbor Freight that has worked great so far.
